STT

Securities Transaction Tax is a levy on specified equity and equity-derivative market transactions in India.

STT applies to specified cash equity and equity F&O trades; rates are set in the Finance Act and related notifications for the relevant year.

The levy is usually collected through the exchange or broker and appears on the contract note.

STT is distinct from stamp duty on delivery transfers and from CTT on commodity derivatives.

Compare transaction-tax domains under STT vs CTT; stamp duty is covered separately.
